Hi, I'm Peter and I invented cab:app to help unite Hackney Carriage drivers like me by providing the latest mobile technology to give you the tools to take on private hire.

As a driver for over 10 years I know how drivers like to work so I've designed the app so it's free to download, easy to use and can help generate more work while keeping your independence with a low cost pay as you go model.

For passengers we offer a range of services and unique features to make sure they too have a great experience using cab:app so take a look at the Passenger 'How it works' for more information.

The main menu offers a range of options including cab:pay, a free built in debit and credit card facility. Unlike other apps we also show you the pick-up and drop-off in advance.

My Profile

To register just go to www.cabapp.net and in the Drivers section select 'signup' and look for your City in the dropdown box. If your City is not there yet please get in touch at info@cabapp.net as we are expanding throughout the UK and Ireland. You can also register via the app by going to the app store for your specific mobile provider and downloading cab:app for drivers.

My priority when creating cab:app was to ensure it was transparent and safe for passengers, and only available for the exclusive use of registered licensed taxi drivers. It's vital that we meet and fulfil all the local authorities' regulatory requirements, so please ensure all your required documentation is in order.

Once your account goes live, just Log In and you can start accepting debit and credit card payments. You will also see any Available Jobs in your local vicinity or any Pre-bookings that you might fancy!

cab:pay

cab:pay is a free mobile credit card facility which you can use for any jobs. You'll never let a great credit card job walk away again. If you use the facility once or one hundred times a year it's free to drivers. You also keep 100% of tips.

Once you have registered you can start using cab:pay, no additional equipment, no weekly or monthly contract and it's very easy to use.

It's never been easier for a driver to take a secure credit or debit card payment. Passengers can choose to pre-register their card details or the driver can complete the transaction at the end of the journey.

Within a few seconds you will receive a text with the authorisation code and amount charged. If the passenger wants a receipt you simply key in their mobile number or email address and press send. Job done!

You can view the balance on your account at any time and we will make twice weekly payments direct to your bank account.

We have partnered with DataCash, a MasterCard Company, to enable secure credit card payments. Credit card authorisations and settlements are facilitated via a strongly encrypted connection to DataCash's PCI DSS certified online payment gateway.

Jobs

Your downtime and diesel bill should be reduced as you will able to see any Available Jobs which are close to your current location. You will also see all Pre-bookings in your city with a pick up time greater than 1 hour away. Look out for the more lucrative Fixed Price jobs over longer distances.

On Available Jobs tab, you will immediately see the pick-up address, payment type and passenger notes. By selecting View you can then see the drop-off address and Fixed Price if applicable, so you can decide if the job suits you.

Pre-bookings (over 1 hour) will help you plan your day better and find jobs to bring you in, take you home or run onto. Once again, Fixed Price jobs will show the amount of the fare up front.

All jobs operate on a first come first served basis, this ensures the passenger always gets a speedy response. We also encourage passengers to put in a drop-off address so you can see in advance where you're going before accepting the job.

While the main benefit is to cherry pick jobs that suit you, I want cab:app to be fair to all drivers so there will be a limit on the number of Pre-Bookings to stop a few drivers taking all the airport jobs!

Booking Details

Once a job has been accepted you will receive full booking details including your passenger's name and a unique booking reference so there is no confusion on pick-up. It's worth contacting the passenger at this point as it establishes a line of communication, especially if you intend to run a bit for the job!

In return your passenger will receive confirmation with all your details including your name, driver number, mobile number and vehicle details so they can identify you easily.

Also, you will only get shown jobs that match your payment type set in My Profile, either cash only or cash/credit card but you can simply change your payment criteria on your mobile at any time.

For Fixed Price jobs you will see the fare amount in advance. By law we have to put the meter on, so if the metred fare is less than the Fixed Price the passenger pays less. If it's more, they only pay the Fixed Price.

cab:app is committed to helping others and works in partnership with Wheelpower to assist passengers with reduced mobility, so look out for the wheelchair icon in the notes.

My Job History

cab:app should keep you busy so you can always refer to My Job History to see full details of all your current jobs that are pending.

Selecting >> will take you to Booking Details where you can then Contact Customer or view the directions to pick-up on the Map.

You can also refer to your recently completed jobs in Previous, so if you have a nuisance passenger please report them to cab:app via Driver support so we can stop them using the service in the future.

To avoid clogging up your phone with data My Job History will only store a total of 50 jobs, so Previous jobs already completed will drop off one by one.

Map View

We are all knowledgeable drivers but there is a Map View on hand to help guide you to those hard to find pick-up locations that come up from time to time. Once you're POB the map will also guide you to the passenger's destination.

The map displays your passenger's pick-up as an orange icon and a chequered flag denotes the drop-off. You will also see your passenger's name and the first line of their address.

I did say that cab:app was transparent so your passenger can also track you as you drive towards them, so don't take too long!

Let your passenger know when you've arrived by selecting I'm Outside and they will receive a pop up message and alert with a warning that the meter is now running.

Once selected, the chequered flag will appear and the map will now display the route to your destination.

Message Board

One of my favourite features is the Message Board as I can keep in direct contact with my passengers using in app text messages or by pressing the phone button to call them.

Now you always know where your passenger is so you don't have to waste time looking for them and they get a great service.

It's particularly helpful if either of you are delayed, just select I'm Running Late and the new estimated time of arrival will be sent to your passenger. When they reply there's a simple OK button to let them know you received their message.

Remember not to text while driving!

Add Credits

Once your account has been verified we will give you some free credits to try the system out. cab:app jobs operate on a 'pay as you go' system so you need to be in credit to accept jobs, although you can still use the free in app debit and credit card facility.

The cost of credits may vary by city and on sign up/registration this cost is listed next to your city. All cab:app jobs are deemed an internet/telephone booking, so depending on your licencing authority you may be able to add a booking fee to the metered fare.

Accepting an Available Job or Pre-booking will deduct 1 credit from your account, unless it's a more lucrative Fixed Price job which will deduct 2 credits. If cab:app jobs aren't for you, then have the free credit card facility on us!

Just select Add Credits and the app will take you to our secure ecommerce website where you can Log In with your unique username and password to top up your credits so you can accept more work. For iPhone and iPad users only please go direct to the website via your phone or computer at www.cabapp.net, login with your username and password then select Credits.

Remember unlike other circuits or apps, cab:app is free to download with no on-going financial commitment or share of your income. There really is nothing to lose!
